100 Years of History, Passion, and Wine

Since 1925, our land, our vines, and our people have shaped a unique legacy that lives on in every glass. Barahonda celebrates 100 years of tradition, innovation, and love for the land, honoring those who made it possible. Let’s raise a glass to a legacy that continues to be written, harvest after harvest. Join us in celebrating a century of essence and excellence!

Events

Throughout 2025, we will commemorate our centenary with a series of special events and initiatives that reflect our history, our passion for wine, and the future we continue to build.

We kicked off our centenary celebrations with a commemorative mural designed to help us get to know our winery visitors better. At the entrance of Bodegas Barahonda, a large mural invites everyone who visits us to share their story with wine, with our winery, and with the elements that surround the world of wine.

We want to know how much you love wine, where you’re visiting from, how you enjoy it, and who you share it with. A fun and interactive way to create a “visual map” of our visitors’ preferences!

More special actions are on the way to celebrate 100 years of Barahonda.

100 Candelas

100 years of the Candela family deserve a special wine. That’s why we’ve created a unique, limited-edition wine that pays tribute to our tradition and the essence of our land. Made from our finest Monastrell grapes, grown in century-old vineyards, this wine reflects the passion, knowledge, and dedication of four generations. Its carefully aged barrel maturation enhances its deep, elegant character and unique expression.

More than just a wine, it’s a tribute to our history and a toast to the future.

The history of Barahonda

The story of Bodegas Barahonda dates back to the mid-19th century when, in 1850, Pedro Candela Soriano began producing and selling small quantities of wine locally in Yecla. His passion for viticulture was passed down to his son, Antonio Candela García, who founded a small winery in 1925, laying the foundation for what we now know as Barahonda.

The third generation, led by Antonio Candela Poveda—son and grandson of the founders—drove the winery’s growth and evolution, adapting to new times and challenges in the wine industry. In 2006, the fourth generation, with Antonio and Alfredo Candela at the helm, took Barahonda a step further in the pursuit of winemaking excellence, focusing on the production of high-quality wines.
